About us

WHO WE ARE
We are a collaborative community of faith taking steps to bring hope and healing to our city. We coordinate the efforts of individual Seventh-day Adventist churches, ministries, and volunteers from all walks of life to offer physical, emotional, spiritual, and social help for those in need.

THE FUTURE WE SEE
We see a community lifted from suffering, pain, and despair — a place where hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging is restored. We see people coming together to serve others to fuel the transformative change in people, families, and communities that is only possible with divine connection, coordination, and compassion.

WHO WE REACH
While Renew Spokane serves people from all income demographics, many come:

• Desiring a fuller life
• Underserved, hopeless, or lonely
• Needing a path to a supportive community, hope, wholeness, and meaning.

Beyond these broader attributes, many fit into one or more of the following demographic personas and may feel they have nowhere else to turn:

Searching for belonging and looking for basic needs: Long-term residents and immigrants representing a wide range of ethnic and demographic diversity. Our first touchpoint is often made by responding to their most basic needs like food, clothing, and medical care.

Searching for meaning: Volunteers and recipients who are looking for purpose, meaning, and a desire to help others who are struggling. May not have religious motivations, though their impulse to serve is deeply aligned with Christ’s work.

Searching for more: People who hunger for what the gospel offers, but likely do not frame it in those words. Some may be looking to build a better life by obtaining new skills like healthy living, while others may need deeper connection with a caring community.

Searching for freedom: Individuals and families torn apart by addictions of all kinds or living in abusive situations.

OUR WHAT AND HOW
We help people and communities rediscover their worth and gain the necessary support and skills to move into independence, healthy relationships, and spiritual, physical, and emotional wholeness.

We enter people’s lives at their pain points, desires, and most pressing needs, offering unconditional love and relationships first and foremost. We give more than is expected, ask nothing in return from those we serve, and do so with hearts of gratitude for the healing and grace we ourselves have received from God.

1. First, we meet their immediate crisis needs, like food, clothing, or medical help. In some cases, this could also be offering community or skills for better living.

2. Then we offer community, the antidote to loneliness and a taste of God’s love.

3. Next, we provide people with the knowledge and tools to create lasting positive life change.

4. Then, we empower people to live healthy lives of meaning, hope, and service—honoring their dignity by enabling both independence and healthy dependence on community.

5. We are committed to living our faith, and when the time is right, we offer up our own experience with God as a way for them to access the divine power needed to make change. We believe a divine connection goes beyond self-help and advice.

OUR WHY
Having experienced the transformative, hope-filled peace and love of God in our own brokenness, we want to help others experience this, too.
